I've Been Reading the Bible for 14 Years. Last Tuesday, I Finally Understood It for the First Time.
For over a decade, I sat in church every Sunday...
Nodded along during Bible study and smiled when people talked about Scripture.
But when I got home and opened my Bible alone?
I was completely lost.
I'd flip to Philippians (a book people say is "one of the easiest to start with") and within two minutes, I'd be rereading the same paragraph... wondering who Paul was talking to, why he was writing this, and what any of it had to do with my life.
I'd close my Bible feeling worse than when I opened it.
I wasn't getting spiritually inspired, and therefore... I wasn't getting closer to God.
Every time, I was just feeling more... ashamed.
And If You've Ever Felt This Way Too, Know That You're Not Alone...
I found a LifeWay Research survey that said that 57% of regular churchgoers say they struggle to understand the Bible on their own.
That's more than half of us who are completely lost. And I'm sure we're more than that.
And the worst part must be that none of us talk about this in church.
Most of us don't tell anyone.
Yes, we nod. We highlight. We Google things quietly before Bible study so we don't look clueless. We let the pastor explain it and think, "okay, that makes sense..."
But the moment we try to read it ourselves, the meaning slips away like water through our fingers.
I did all of this for years. I tried:
- Daily devotionals (great for inspiration, but terrible for actually understanding Scripture)
- One-year Bible reading plans (I read more... sure... but I understood less)
- Study Bibles with all the footnotes (so much information I didn't know where to start)
- YouTube explanations before bed (I understood their interpretation, but I couldn't explain it myself if you'd ask me)
- Bible study groups (I mostly stayed quiet and hoped no one called on me)
Nothing worked. Not really.
And deep down, I believed the problem was me.
That my faith wasn't strong enough. That I just wasn't "a Bible person." That some Christians are wired for this and some aren't.
But let me tell you: I was wrong. And I wish someone had told me sooner...
The Real Reason the Bible Feels Confusing (It's Not Because It's Hard)
Look... there's something important you need to know about the Bible that I've not seen taught often...
Every single book was written by a specific person, to a specific audience, during a specific moment in history, for a specific reason.
Philippians wasn't written as a timeless letter floating in abstract space.
It was written by Paul, in prison, to a small community of believers in a Roman colony called Philippi. People he personally loved and hadn't seen in years.
Because when you know that, the whole tone of the letter changes.
The joy he keeps talking about isn't some warm, feel-good emotion.
Paul is writing this from prison. He doesn't know if he's going to live or die. He's not writing from a comfortable place of abundance... he's writing from chains.
So when he says "rejoice always," he doesn't mean life is easy. He means joy is possible even when it isn't.
But I didn't know any of that the first dozen times I read it.
No one ever told me this.
Most of us were handed a Bible and told to start reading with no context or introduction to who's speaking or why.
It's like being dropped into the middle of a conversation between strangers, handed a transcript, and asked to explain what they mean by page four.
Of course you get confused.
But the confusion was never a faith problem. It was an orientation problem.

The Tool I Wish I Had 14 Years Ago
A few months ago, someone in my church group mentioned a Bible study guide she'd been using.
And I know what you might think... Another devotional or commentary, right?
But this time, it was something different.
It's called the Bible Study Guide from Saints Label, and it covers all 66 books of the Bible, one page each.
- Who wrote this book?
- Who was it written to?
- When was it written?
- What was happening historically at the time?
- Why was this book written?
That's it. One page, then you open your Bible and read.
The first time I used it, I read the page on Romans before I started the chapter. It took me about three minutes.
Then I opened to Romans 1 and... it was amazing... For the first time in years, I actually understood what I was reading.
I didn't become smarter or suddenly found more faith.
I simply finally knew where I was.
This Isn't for Scholars -- It's for People Like You and Me
I'm not going to exaggerate this. There are still passages that take me time to understand.
But the dread is gone.
That anxiety I used to feel every time I opened my Bible... the "I hope I don't get to a part I don't understand" feeling... it's just not there anymore.
Now when I sit down with Scripture, I feel like I belong there. Like I know what I'm walking into.
Even my husband noticed the change before I said anything.
"You seem different when you read your Bible now," he said.
He was right.
What I love about this Bible Study Guide is that you don't need Greek or Hebrew, and you don't need to already know anything.
You just need orientation before you dive into Scripture.
And that's what this guide is.
It's a physical book that you keep next to your Bible and open first.
It doesn't replace your Bible.
It just gives you the context your brain needs before it can absorb meaning.
And naturally, once you have that context, the understanding follows.
So For Anyone Who's Been Struggling To Understand Scripture...
If you've been sitting in church for years and secretly feeling like everyone else understands something you don't...
Or if you highlight verses but couldn't explain them if someone asked...
Or if you've tried reading plans, devotionals, study Bibles, and podcasts, and still feel lost...
This isn't a "you" problem, and it never was.
You were simply never taught how to approach Bible reading in a way that makes it easy to understand.

You Don't Have To Stay Lost Any Longer
Look... I don't want to force you into a decision.
So I'm just going to ask you one question:
How would you feel knowing that you finally understand the words God left you, and you're now closer to Him than ever?
Because that's what happened to me.
Not only did I get to understand Scripture now... I also got closer to our Lord and Savior.
And now, I got this Bible Study Guide for every Christian member of my family because of the goodness it brought into my life.
Don't let another year go by where God's word looks more like homework, rather than a guide that shapes your Christian life.
Like I said, it covers all 66 books of the Bible, and it's designed to be used by people who love God and want to finally feel confident with His Word.
You can currently get 1 guide for free if you get 2 of those guides.
Don't you think it's time to get closer to God and to spread all that goodness within your circle of Christians?
Your friends, your family, your Bible Study Group partners... You can all bring them closer to God.
What's more... You deserve to know what I feel now. Because my spiritual life has never been better, and I want you to feel that too.
